Opportunity Description
Context:
Waste is a serious and global problem. The way we use and discard is quickly destroying the Earth and damaging our health faster than many people realize. Presently, we think of waste in a linear model- a product is created, we purchase it and, when we have used it, we throw away whatever is left. This approach generates an amazing amount of "unseen" waste (each kilo of garbage we dispose produces 40 kilos of waste upstream long before consumers touch it.) After waste is generated it is transported from our lives without much thought. For our public systems, it's a nuisance to be dealt with cheaply and quickly. For future generations, it's one of the biggest mistakes we are making. At Wasteless we believe that we urgently need to raise awareness and change behavior and inspire everyone to generate less waste.
Children are becoming the biggest consumers of tomorrow and they will inherit the mess we are creating today. We believe that if children are provided with the knowledge, tools and skills, our next generation will feel empowered and able to make better-informed decisions, which in turn will have a positive and tangible effect on the future.
For that we develop educational materials, games, conduct presentations and initiate engaging campaigns that target waste.
Right now we have 13,000 students in 35 schools that are learning about waste, consumerism and environment through the Garbology 101 educational tool kit.
