History & Today’s organization

The Auroville Language Lab opened in 1998 as a place for learning the  4 main languages of Auroville as defined by The Mother – English, French, Tamil, Sanskrit. Today, the full-fledged language laboratory offers many more languages, using audio, video and software, and creates exclusive teaching material through ongoing research. The Tomatis Research centre offers listening therapy to enhance and accelerate language learning.

 Vision & Missions

It allows the cohabitation of various learning techniques, be it individual or group learning. It serves the wills of Aurovillians, locals or guests to connect with another culture or stay in touch with their native language.

The multi-cultural, multi-national teaching faculty at the Laboratory will explore how teaching languages can cut across national, racial, regional and other divisions and foster Human Unity. The laboratory will thus make practical contributions towards reducing the dominance of any one language, and the development of a true unity based on diversity and mutual respect between cultures.

Leaders & Team

A young multicultural team of mostly volunteers are at present teaching English, German, Tamil, Bengali, Hindi, Spanish and Italian.
