Wellness Woodcraft was established in 2019 as a dedicated woodcraft unit with a strong commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly manufacturing. Registered under the Kattida Kalai Trust, the organization has grown from its founding principles of combining traditional craftsmanship with environmental responsibility. The unit specializes in creating handmade wooden kitchenware and home accessories, emphasizing both artistic quality and ecological consciousness. Located in Auroville, Wellness Woodcraft has developed a unique approach to woodworking that balances artistic expression with sustainable practices.
The vision of Wellness Woodcraft is to promote sustainable living through meticulously crafted wooden products that showcase the beauty of responsible craftsmanship. Their mission centers on three key principles: creating high-quality, eco-friendly wooden accessories, preserving traditional woodworking techniques, and educating the community about sustainable craftsmanship. By offering beginner-level carpentry and woodcraft classes, the organization aims to spread knowledge about woodworking fundamentals, including measuring, cutting, sanding, joining, and finishing techniques. Their ultimate goal is to inspire a deeper appreciation for sustainable design and environmental responsibility through the art of woodworking.

Deepam is a therapy-based day support centre for children with special needs from the villages around Auroville. Many of our children come from challenging backgrounds and would have no access to the support that they need without us. At Deepam, we aim to bring light into the lives and futures of those children. We provide therapies, education, vocational training, healthy lunch and snacks, healthcare checks and an environment of love and care which nurtures our students to reach their potential. We have a daily structure including starting and ending the day with a circle and prayer which provides the needed security and rhythm for our students to flourish.
We currently have three programs:
1. Day care program: a full time program that includes a range of different activities and group sessions designed to meet the social, spiritual, mental and physical needs of the child.
2. Individual therapies: one-to-one therapies for children who come together with their parents for a number of sessions per week. Over time, these children often integrate into the day care program. One-to-one therapies are also provided for our day care program students as needed.
3. Vocational training: we have a separate workshop building where students learn the basics in a range of trades such as carpentry, candle-making, soap making, cooking, macramé, handicrafts and tailoring. If a student shows a particular aptitude or interest in an area, we support them to attend more extensive training outside. With practical training, they are able to find employment when they are ready.
Alongside our day to day routine and activities, Deepam also teaches all the students daily living skills, such as teeth cleaning, washing hands, dressing and using the toilet, and we also build capacity and self-confidence in the students by giving them areas of responsibility, such as cleaning up after lunch, taking care of the garden or looking after other children. Festivals are always well celebrated at Deepam.
Deepam aims to bring light into the lives of children with special needs from the local villages. Deepam aims to be an enriching and nourishing place where our children can feel happy, cared for and reach their full potentials.
