Kuilapalayam Cultural Centre started in 2003, offering many programs and activities for the children and youth in Kuilapalayam in Auroville’s Bio-region. Since 2014, Kuilai Creative Centre became a sub-unit of SAIIER – Sri Aurobindo International Institute of Educational Research in Auroville, in the Universal City Auroville, near Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry), in southern India.

Vision and Missions:

The vision of the Kuilai Creative Centre is to connect the beneficial influence of Aurovilian philosophy and activities with the Tamil Culture so that the Centre can be a place where the two cultures integrate.

We’re a group of 5 staff members, including part-time staffs for Office, Admin, Tuition, Tailoring, and Extra-curricular activities

Current Activities:

Kuilai Creative Centre has some daytime programs from 9 am to 5 pm(English Classes, Tailoring, Karate, Kick-Boxing, Kung Fu & Arts Classes) and after-school programs(Evening Tuition) from 6 pm to 8 pm and various Weekend activities(Silambam, Hip – Hop, Yoga, Bharathanaatiyam, Music-Keyboard, Arts Classes, Community Art Reach Programmes). During these hours, children and adults come and participate in different activities.

The Context or the need

To promote Environment preservation, create awareness on tree plantations and educate people on plastic pollution, alternate solution as cotton bags and spread the word for sustainable and eco living. We need to engage more volunteers and grow as a community.

Conditions

Work Lunch/dinner can be povided and also vehicle and fuel reimbursements if used for work

Context or the need

The need for the opportunity is to find a long term volunteer that can help with developing this activity and supporting the daily tasks of the manager.

Goal & expected outcome

To get an insight into living in Auroville .To learn about permaculture and natural farming and to be part of a newly started project that can grow in many directions.
