Surya Performance Lab

Our creations are inspired by the memory of the body, nature and the elements. Moving beyond denial and loss, the creative process questions the notions of identity, memory and freedom. Our contemporary creations feed on various forms of traditional performing arts of Indian Ocean, India and Africa. An Important part of our mission is also to support and empower the artists who are part of the company. We have been in the field of performing arts for 35 years. We have directed an international dance theatre company based in La Reunion Island (French island in the Indian ocean). We developed a strong partnership with South Africa and performed in 82 countries in the biggest festivals and theatres of the world including l’Opera de Paris and Le Théâtre de la ville de Paris.

Current Activities:

It is a dance-theatre company based in Fertile Forest community. We create and perform shows, do tours, give workshops, and do artistic researches inspired by the integral yoga of Sri Aurobindo and Mother.

History:

Philippe Pelen and Thierry Moucazambo, Aurovilians, founded Surya Performance Lab (Ex Bhu Ritam activity) under Auroville Art Service in 2016, in collaboration with Barbara Paschinger.
