Context of the need

Wellness Woodcraft, an eco-friendly woodworking unit established in 2019, seeks passionate volunteers to support its mission of creating sustainable wooden kitchenware and home accessories. The organization aims to preserve traditional craftsmanship while promoting environmental responsibility through handmade products and educational woodworking classes. By bringing in volunteers, the unit hopes to enhance its production, design, and outreach capabilities while providing a unique learning experience in sustainable craftsmanship.

Position and role of the volunteer

Volunteers will be integral to the daily operations of Wellness Woodcraft, assisting with multiple aspects of the organization. Key responsibilities include day-to-day production in the workshop, tools maintenance, wood milling, supporting classes and workshops, product design, marketing, logistics, and managing social media. The ideal volunteer will demonstrate a willingness to learn, assist with basic tasks, maintain a strong work ethic, and show commitment to collaboration. Skills to be developed include woodworking techniques, wood selection and preparation, sanding and finishing, bowl turning, spoon carving, design creativity, and tool maintenance.

Conditions and practical details

The volunteering opportunity is designed for a minimum duration of 4 to 6 months, with work hours scheduled from 10 AM to 1 PM and 2 PM to 4 PM. No specific academic background is required, making this an accessible opportunity for individuals interested in woodcraft and sustainability. Volunteers will work under the guidance of Anand Rajan, the Unit Manager, and will be expected to engage fully with the organization's mission and daily operations. The position is open to individuals with a passion for craftsmanship and environmental responsibility.
