Aura Network

History and today’s organisation

The Aura Network is a collaborative project between Auroville and the Science Walden Center
that was initiated in February 2019. Since its commencement, the project has successfully
completed three phases. Science Walden Center is a research institute at the Ulsan National
Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) based in South Korea that is funded by the National
Research Fund (NRF) of Korea. Science Walden is a government-sponsored initiative
that strives to create convergence between disciplines including natural sciences, engineering,
arts and humanities. Its most recent endeavour is to create a new digital currency that could not
only reshape the way people perceive money, but also how they go about interacting with it.

Aura Network App
 The Aura Network App generates and circulates a digital community credit called Aura.
This credit has no equivalence in any other currency and cannot be traded for money.
 The value of the Aura is created in each instance where goodwill is turned into action.
The action of members in the network is to identify, transform and circulate an array of
underutilized resources (including human talent) and surplus in the community.
 The vision of the Aura is to break free from the linear value cycle where goods are used
and turned into waste. The Aura creates a space for a circular economy where things
considered waste, or things that are not being purposed can first be identified and then
upcycled and repurposed. Additionally, the Aura facilitates a care economy where a
diverse range of offerings from members of the network can cover the unique relative
needs of others in the community.

Vision and Missions

The Aura is a conscious evolution of Auroville economics, away from an individualistic life of
survival, evolving towards a life of creativity and communal harmony. Rediscovering the
meaning of money in human society, Aura is created as a virtual credit and digital currency that
translates human goodwill and care into the exchange of value.
The Aura Network strives for a cashless community, a local economy that empowers individuals
for a life of freedom and joy. As members of the community discover the abundance in their
lives, they naturally share with each other what they value. An unconditional sharing and
interdependence no longer remains an unreachable ideal but a living reality.
As the flow of resources bridges the gaps between the needs of the people, the economy
becomes circular, as is intended in the evolution of humanity. A conscious flow of sharing and receiving
brings a sense of sustainability and an alignment with the cycles of nature.
As the world struggles with an unstable economy, a pandemic, poverty, global warming,
pollution, war and hatred; a seed of love and human prosperity can now be planted in the soil
nourished by the Aura Network.
The Aura Network brings the ideals of Auroville as a human laboratory for transformation into a
digital network that can make a step towards its vision of human unity.
