Aurofilm
History & Today’s organization
Aurofilm, pioneer and veteran film department of Auroville, was started in 1981, being one of the earlier SAIIER activities for education, research and culture in Auroville. Since its beginning the service is dedicated to the promotion of Cinema in its artistic, cultural and educational sense.
Vision & Missions
With a spirit of research & discovery, study and information made accessible to Aurovilians and students/visitors, and is materialized mainly through four branches of activity:
- Regular film shows for the community of Auroville (the “Friday film show” currently happening at MMC, Town Hall).
- Running of film workshops to prepare the basis for a future Film Institute in Auroville; it includes a film production unit.
- Other related activities (invitation of film personalities, technicians etc. for presentations, conferences, training…)
- Every year Aurofilm organizes at least one film festival, a 3 day “Panorama of Contemporary Indian Cinema” (PCIC) -generally in mid-February, at the Sri Aurobindo Auditorium.

The team is composed of 3 Aurovilians: Gérard (founder) Surya and Susana.
