History & Today’s Organization

The Garden Café is part of our social enterprise, Naturellement, serving vegetarian and vegan dishes from all around the world. We strive to use as many organically grown ingredients as possible. Auroville farms provide us with eggs, milk, cheese, seasonal fruits, and vegetables, while greens and herbs come from our own kitchen garden. Using organic flour, our in-house bakery produces breads, cakes, cookies, and desserts.

In our kitchen, we avoid using refined oils, opting instead for extra virgin olive oil, cold-pressed coconut oil, butter, and homemade ghee. We make everything from scratch, including vegan mayonnaise, ketchup, pasta, and ravioli.

Established in 1991, Naturellement started by preparing small batches of jams, syrups, and peanut butter for the Auroville community at Pour Tous Aspiration, working with a couple of women from the local village. Over time, the unit evolved organically and now employs 35+ women from the bioregion.

Our extensive product line, created over 30 years of research and development, includes over 40 natural/organic handcrafted food products ranging from jams to breakfast cereals and fruit syrups to condiments. All products are made in small batches using carefully selected high-quality raw materials, organic and locally sourced whenever available.

Naturellement [na-tu-rè-le-man] means “natural” in French, and true to its name, we aim to empower women from disadvantaged backgrounds by providing them with meaningful work.

Leadership & Team

The unit is led by Martina, who has been residing in Auroville for nearly 40 years. Her focus has always been on empowering women and providing only the best quality handcrafted food products.

Our dedicated team of over 35 highly trained local women has evolved into skilled culinary artisans, forming the backbone of the company.
