Papyrus

History and today’s organisation.

Papyrus was created 30 years ago by a pioneering member of Auroville to produce and sell paper products made with handmade paper (manufactured originally by the Pondicherry Ashram factory).  After many years of successful development, offering job opportunities to a good number of local workers, the unit started struggling  with difficulties and came to envisage to close. 

In April 2016, a new team took over the establishment, cut down costs and expenses, and rekindle the activity on fresh basis; the unit is now in phase of renovating the range of products and wanting to expand its activities.

Vision and Missions

Papyrus is a small scale unit, with a long history of making quality handmade stationeries. The vocation of Papyrus is to manufacture and sell 50 lines of products like books, pads, boxes, school and office supplies, that are mostly sold for the local market; the manufacturing of the products is based on the knowhow of very experienced workers, and is entirely manual, using handmade paper.
