Computer work on sanskrit data

Duration: 3 months

Daily Tasks

The task is to manipulate sanskrit data on a computer software, extracting it from large encyclopedic sources to feed into various forms of outputs : the sanskrit dictionary, posters or learning portals. The volunteer will work with ancient sanskrit texts, the written marks of ancient oral traditions.

Skills gained

The volunteer will benefit of an exposure to sanskrit, and its surrounding pools of knowledge, which can provide a new and different perspective on all aspects of existence, from emotional to physical experience. It is also an opportunity to be exposed to project work in the context of Auroville.

Opportunity Description

Conditions of volunteering:

The working hours are flexible, they will be discussed between the volunteer and the unit at the stage of application.

The unit will pay the volunteer's monthly contribution to Auroville. An additional financial help can be arranged to sustain the volunteer's stay according to his or her needs.

If the volunteer is undertaking academic research in the field of Sanskrit, the possibility to carry out research part time within our office could be discussed.

Location:

Aurelec Campus, Auroville 605 101 Tamil Nadu, India.

Duration:

Minimum duration is 3 months that can be further extended if there is the need. (Non-Indians must be aware of the visa conditions- see our visa pages.)

 

 

Timing

 

Morning hours 9 -12 am, Monday to Friday.
Afternoon hours 14.00 to 17.00, monday to Friday.

Prerequisites

General computer skills. Basic scripting skills such as visual basic script and macro is a plus. Ability to use image management softwares such as the Adobe or Corel Suite. A prior knowledge of Sanskrit language is not required.
