Programmer for Sanskrit research software

Daily Tasks

The task is to work on the development of the online sanskrit dictionary sanskritdictionary.com or other softwares we might develop in the future. This is a challenging project, that requires thinking "outside of the box" to find solutions appropriate to the subject matter.

Skills gained

The volunteer will benefit of an exposure to sanskrit, and its surrounding pools of knowledge, which can provide a new and different perspective on all aspects of existence, from emotional to physical experience. It is also an opportunity to take part in an innovative project linking linguistics and computation, in the very unique context of Auroville.

Opportunity Description

The conditions of volunteering will be discussed between the volunteer and the unit.

The hours of work are flexible, but a minimum of 18 hours per week is necessary to get the volunteer status.

The unit will pay the volunteer's monthly contribution to Auroville. An additional financial help can be arranged to sustain the volunteer's stay according to his or her needs.

If the volunteer is undertaking academic research in the field of Sanskrit, the possibility to carry out research part time within our office could be discussed.

Morning hours 9am 12pm
Afternoon hours 2pm 4pm

Prerequisites

A degree and minimum of 2 years experience in programming is required. A good knowledge of one the following : PHP, Java, C++, Python. If other softwares are known, there would be a possibility to be trained. A highly agile way of thinking. A prior knowledge of Sanskrit of Indic language in not required.
