Daily Tasks

All work varies according to the season. Activities linked to agriculture: preparing nurseries, planting, weeding, harvesting, seed collecting, composting beds and trees and making new compost, processing fruits (solar dryer) Activities linked to dairy: cleaning sheds & animals, cutting fodder, mixing feed, feeding adult animals and calves, making cheese, distributing milk, helping with medical treatment of animals Activities linked to farm maintenance: repairing fences and bunds and internal roads Activities linked to forest plots: pruning, harvesting dead trees, planting new trees

Skills gained

A volunteer working at Aurogreen has the opportunity to participate in many facets of farm life according to his or her interest and capacities. He or she can learn many aspects of agricultural work, how to work in a small team, and how to handle to tools and implements involved in farming and afforestation. A volunteer takes responsibility to be punctual and regular in his or her work and is a dependable member of the work force.

Opportunity Description

Context of the Need

Aurogreen Farms is spread across 30 acres of forest land and 1.5 acres is used for cultivation. There is a need to conserve and protect forests. The land used for cultivation also opens a lot of untaped possibilities which need to be explored. 

Besides the farm Aurogreen is also a vibrant community of all ages including five Tamil Aurovilians, one German, one Dutch, two Americans and one north Indian guest. It has a community kitchen and other shared facilities and a new de-mountable volunteer guest accommodation.
