Natural Environment
From a barren and eroded land, Auroville has become a green city, with its “Green Belt” developed out of a huge reforestation effort, soil and water conservation program. Many initiatives have been developed to revive the Tropical Dry Evergreen Forest, to create herbariums and nurseries, to collect seeds of local specimens, to regenerate degraded land.
Auroville intends to reach self-sufficiency for its needs of food through its 13 farms located in the periphery. They welcome well wishers interested to help and discover organic farming and ecological techniques in agriculture.
